To be clear, this site does not contain a comprehensive list of suggestions and functions as part of a wider range of activities which include ongoing work with the city of Sydney, formal representations to our elected representatives and general advocacy of the Greater Darlinghurst area, or Inner East if you prefer.

In the coming weeks and months, these pages will be modified and added to as events come to light and new conversations happen. We will be seeking comment from public officials and these will be posted on this site on the comments page. We will also be spending November 2008 gathering feedback from all those concerned, and specifically we will give the City of Sydney a heads up and time to respond.

The reason for this is because we believe that council, as major property owner, not only has a responsibility, but a unique opportunity to take the initiative and set the agenda about what Oxford Street is going to be.

The choice is stark: a six lane highway/nightclub strip or a thriving, people friendly village of Sydney.

Our aim is not to ambush anyone, but after having experienced four years of relative inaction, lack of progress and frustration, there is a powerful need for the debate to go public and a record to be kept and that is the purpose of this site.

It all boil down to whether the powers that be are willing or able to put their effort where their vision is and it all begins by answering the following question:

Is Oxford Street a Main Road or a Main Street?

Clearly some time has passed since the above was written, and as you can see from the Status Page, we are at an impasse. The area continues to slide into a night time economy with no one doing anything about it. Due to a total abrogation of council responsibility we hope to convene a community meeting some time in the next few months to address the issues this site raises. More Soon.
